This Shoe is very light and the quality of the upper doesn't appear to be durable. The sole support is very cushion(y), but I did not wear them for more than 5 mins as I returned them because my Podiatrist didn't approve of them. He recommended the Brooks Beast 18 or Adrenaline or the Hoka Clifton 5 or Bondi 5I have ordered a pair of Altra Olympus 3 Altra and I have been told they are a harder sole and have more durable uppers. I like the Altra philosophy for designing shoes and I hope these turn out to be true to the designers description, I am planning on keeping them and using them for the suggest two weeks (by Altra) regardless.I have an advanced background in Bio-Mechanics and shoes that are ultra light are not necessarily better. Soles need to have body and support along with cushioning. Companies really like to throw around a ton of non-applicable feature descriptions (marketing) that have no engineering basis. Shoes need to be balanced with a firm sole to be effective first and foremost.I had read positive reviews on Altra running shoes. I liked the concept of "zero drop" which encourages proper and natural running form. The past 5 pairs of running shoes I have worn have been from the Sketchers GoRun line. I have thoroughly enjoyed the GoRun shoes for their lightweight minimal feel. My last pair was the GoMeb Speed 5 which is more of a racing flat. I put well over 1400 miles on those shoes and still use them today. I wanted try the Altra however out of curiosity. I was very disappointed with the Altra Duo. Despite not being that heavy these shoes felt very clunky. They were too big to be running shoes and felt like boots more than shoes. In addition to that I felt as if I was way too high off the ground. I prefer to be low to the ground. In close I prefer to stick with shoes that are more like racing flats-more minimal. Altras seem to be designed in such a way that so as to over protect the foot. It goes overboard in that design which makes for clumsy feel while running since the shoes are just too big. I log in 50 to 60 plus miles a week and have found over the past 6 to 7 years that I am more efficient with a lesser cushioned more minimalist type shoe. I want to find another pair of the GoMeb speed 5 but cannot find them. My current pair has a hole in the sole of the right shoe after putting in so many miles but I love them so much I filled the hole with part of a piece of a sole from an old pair of shoes. These Duos are replacing a pair of Altra Paradigm 3 , size 11, which fit me perfectly. A major difference between these (the Duo) and the Paradigm 3 is that the Paradigm 3 has lots of padding in the tongue and heel, whereas the Duo has no padding. This means my foot actually sits further back in the shoe than in the Paradigm 3 -- in particular, my foot's arch doesn't align with the Duo's arch support placement. I should have ordered a size 10.5 in the Duo to counter the lack of padding in the Duo.Altra makes wonderful shoes! This one is probably not the best, but for the price they are great. Wonderful space for your toes, and Zero drop in the foot as they are known for. This particular shoe has moderate amount of grip so it’s more of an in between a gravel road/off-road shoe. I have found that pavement wears the grip down fairly fast.My 8th pair of Altras after many years... This model is very lightweight, supportive, and very comfortable for running. Unfortunately, they only lasted about 3 1/2 months. The fabric feels very stiff, and it creases at the natural flex points of the foot. Eventually the creases turn into tears. Since I work out regularly for 1 hour 6x per week, I'm able to say these shoes cost me exactly $1.26 per use before the fabric failed. Soles and other parts of the shoes held up perfectly.Ultra light shoe. Wide toe box. Hi tech materials. Great looking. Easy on an off. Well ventilated, 10 months old and still look like new. Heel sidewalls are deep and very supportive. Need to wear neopreme toe sox for best fit and warmth in winter. As trail runner shoes go, lack of sturdy foot protection and grippy soles are negatives. Just ordered my second pair for 40% less than my first pair.I bought these for use as a daily wear shoe. I run and backpack in Altras exclusively and I expect them to have a certain livability. These are the first pair out of eight different Altra shoes that have worn out prematurely in the upper. These have developed 2-3 holes in the mesh already where the fabric creases as your foot flexes. I might have 100 miles total on them. I bought a pair for my wife as well before the holes started, I will have to monitor her's to see if they exhibit the same issue.I first bought these shoes in my normal size 8(from a different vendor), but when I received them, they were one size bigger so I ordered the size 7 since it dont come in a 7.5, but it fits great just like my normal size 8 would so I’m keeping this pair. I would say the shoes run bigger in size. So far the Altra duo’s feel awesome. I have heard of the mesh breaking on the sides so I’m hoping I do not get that same issue, and if I does, I hope Altra does right by replacing them or better yet work on the flaw and upgrading the issue. The shoes feel and look great. So far I’m liking it.I'll start by acknowledging that running shoes are of course subjective. I'm a massive Altra fan, having had 4 pairs of Escalante and a pair of Vanish-R racers, I thought the Duo sounded a great idea. In reality it's the worst shoe I've ever owned, no exaggeration. I would add that it feels so inflexible and heavy, the sole is chunky and stiff, the upper is like that of a racer but the feeling of this contrasted with a heavy thick sole feel horrible together. I've even tripped and fallen in this shoe, a thing I can only attribute to the perceived heaviness and change to my running form I feel this shoe creates on me. I've persevered for over a month with them thinking it's just me or they need to break in, but they're still horrific. All I can say is of you're an Altra fan like me, stay away from this shoe and stick to your usual.
